Content Creators, Marketers, Podcasters, Video Producers and Social Media Managers

Problem

Solution

In today's fast-paced digital landscape, businesses are striving to create bite-sized content for marketing purposes to captivate and engage their audience. However, the manual process of creating shareable, engaging, and diverse content from long-form videos and podcasts can be time-consuming, challenging and labor-intensive. This often restricts businesses from efficiently reaching their target audience and driving optimal marketing results.

Cliq provides a content repurposing tool that simplifies and automates the transformation of long-form content into shareable clips and written content for use across various platforms, including social media and blogs. By leveraging AI technology, Cliq eliminates the need for manual editing and content creation, saving time, effort and money for creators. With Cliq, creators can effortlessly reach a wider audience, expand their lead funnel, and generate more revenue by repurposing content in seconds.

Core Design Principles Implemented

User-Centric

Focus on creating a clean and intuitive user interface that makes content repurposing simple and enjoyable.

Visual Appeal

Leverage visually engaging graphics, illustrations, and animations to maintain user interest and improve interaction.

Personalization

Tailor features and generated content to align with user preferences and branding.

Efficiency

Streamline user flows to help users achieve their goals quickly and with minimal friction.

Research

During the design process, I conducted comprehensive research to delve into the current practices of bite-sizing long-form content. To gather valuable insights, I conducted semi-structured qualitative user interviews with 10 individuals from the industry who possess video editing experience. These interviews were focused on exploring industry demographics, workflows, opinions, priorities, preferences, and challenges.

Research Objective

The research aimed to investigate the process of distributing virtual workshops and webinars, with a focus on understanding the feasibility, benefits, and barriers of sharing shorter clips from long-form content.

  1. What is the process for sharing workshop/webinar content currently?

  2. What do they think about sharing shorter clips of the long form content to make it easier for their audience to search, consume & share it?

    • What are the barriers to doing this?

    • What are the potential gains / benefits to doing this?

  3. How does the content fit into their broader objectives & priorities?

    • What is their bottom line? How does this content affect that?

  4. How does the content perform relative to this?

    • How do they measure & track content performance currently?

  5. What would be the ideal case? What does success look like?

    • What’s the biggest barrier to this?

To further validate and reinforce the interview findings, I conducted a freelancer research study involving 75 video editors who specialize in repurposing long-form content into platforms such as TikTok, Reels, and YouTube Shorts. The aim was to understand the range of services they provide, the average delivery time for these services, and the pricing structure associated with their offerings.

To repurpose a 1 hour long video into 9 or 10 short videos (1 min-7min clips each) the Average Delivery Time is 2.5 Days and the Average Price is $113.73 CAD.

Major Findings

Time-Consuming Process

Content creators expressed their struggle with the time-consuming nature of manually repurposing long-form content into bite-sized clips.

Limited Technical Expertise

Many content creators mentioned their limited technical expertise in video editing tools, making it difficult for them to efficiently repurpose their content.

Inconsistent Quality

Users shared concerns about maintaining consistent quality across different formats when repurposing their content.

Cost and Resource Constraints

Outsourcing the task of content repurposing to professional video editors can be expensive and not always feasible for content creators with limited budgets.

Analysis

Persona

Based on the preliminary research findings, I developed a proto persona to better understand the needs and challenges of content creators and marketers in the context of repurposing long-form content. This proto persona, named "Educational Ed," represents the common pain points and aspirations shared by the target audience. Ed's insights serve as a foundational reference to guide the design and development of Cliq, ensuring that the platform addresses real-world user needs effectively.

Point of View Statement

Content creators and editors like Ed, need a way to efficiently repurpose long-form content, as they currently struggle with time-consuming and costly manual editing processes.

How Might We Statement

How might we enable content creators to efficiently transform long-form videos into compelling clips, alleviating their challenges tied to time-consuming and costly manual editing processes?

Strategy

Feature List

By thoroughly understanding the pain points of our target audience, I brainstormed an extensive feature list for Cliq. This allowed the team to gain a clear understanding of our strategic direction and prioritize our goals for Cliq's development. By leveraging valuable insights from the analysis, we ensured a straightforward and intelligent approach to designing Cliq, aligning our efforts with the needs and expectations of our target users.

Prioritization matrix

Upon completion of the feature list, we extracted valuable insights from the user interviews and the feature list. With these insights in hand, we identified specific areas of the app for development and focus. This led us to establish a prioritization matrix, outlining our UI/UX goals for beta release.

Designs

The feature prioritization process provided clear insights into the priorities for the low-fidelity prototypes.

Low-Fidelity Designs

For the low-fidelity designs, I generated multiple design alternatives for the homepage, coaching screen, and video editing interface.

Challenges and Constraints

As a startup, our primary hurdle is navigating time and resource constraints. To expedite the release of our minimum viable product (MVP) for thorough testing and iteration, we bypassed extensive internal testing and transitioned to crafting high-fidelity prototypes.

This allowed us to introduce the product to early adopters without any delays, kickstarting our product's journey of refinement through user feedback.

High-Fidelity Designs

I then transitioned the designs into high-fidelity prototypes for our beta release, allowing us to conduct user testing and gather valuable feedback. Here are few examples of those hi-fi designs:

Usability Test

With the designs finalized, I proceeded to conduct both internal and external usability tests involving 15 users, collecting valuable feedback on the following criteria:
